I need to climb that mountain?
Keep walking with me along the path I have chosen for you. Your desire to live close to me is a delight to My heart. I could instantly grant you the spiritual riches you desire, but that is not my way for you. Together we will forge a pathway up the high mountain. The journey is arduous at times, and you are weak. Someday you will dance lightfooted on the high peaks; but for now, your walk is often plodding and heavy. All I require of you is to take the next step, clinging to my hand for strength and direction. Though the path is difficult and the scenery dull at the moment, there are sparkling surprises just around the bend. Stay on the path I have selected for you it is truly the path of life.
- Jesus Calling
I just felt like writing a quick post but today I was really encouraged reading the Jesus Calling devotion this morning. The past couple weeks have been a new stretch for me at Ten Thousand Homes. Our team, community development, have been in a new process of change in our ministry out in the communities. Good changes! New roles, and responsibilities have come up as a young man named Witness and I have taken up leaderships roles in our new after school program. A news letter will come out soon sharing more information about the new after school program! But in this time of preparation, meetings, frustration, fear, doubts God isn't trying to scare me with what seems like so much that I can't handle but a time of growth in my faith, trust, character. I have thought many times, God you really chose the wrong person for this but like in the devotion he promises someday we will dance on top of that mountain BUT right now there's some vertical climbs, some sharp rocks and thick mud. Jesus doesn't say, "alright start climbing, I will be at the top of the mountain waiting for you". But he says walk with me, together, we will climb, cling to my hand. And I love the second to last sentence in the devotion. It's something I can so easy picture. Big boulders, steep climb, dead lifeless trees with a gray hazy sky. But just on the other side of that last hill the sun is breaking through, trees are alive, birds singing.....life! In our Community development Monday meeting someone brought up a verse.
Psalms 84:5-7
Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.
It's also how we take in the hard hike and the dull moments. To have our hearts set on the journey with Gods strength step by step and not just slugging through the difficult, dry, dull times but constantly being in the presence of God, seeing the goodness and growth in the present moment to the very end.
